Flower Garden Ideas For Containers and Window Boxes
Posted by admin on July 2, 2010

Everyone loves flowers showing their pretty heads in their garden. Some people invest in large sprawling gardens and some make the available space in their yard beautiful. People who live in apartments can do neither. However, they do have an option for planting flowering plants. Window boxes are ideal and easily maintained for small places like an apartment.
Window boxes are easily transportable and can be placed on windows where sunlight is in plenty. The flowers will bloom well in such conditions. Flowers bloom best when they have at least 6 hours of direct sunlight.
You can buy window boxes at gardening stores. Choose a window in your apartment that gets a lot of sunlight through out the day. While buying the container make sure that it has holes drilled at the bottom. Buy some good quality soil and prepare the bed. You also get colorful containers, so choose your plants and the colors of the container carefully.
If the container is heavy, then first hang it in place and then fill it out. First make sure the brackets that will be used to hang the basket are firmly fixed so that they can sustain the weight and the load of the basket once you have put in the soil into it.
When you hang in container gardens you can attract humming birds and other birds by planting specific plants. Petunias, verbena and licorice attract such birds and the flowers also look very pretty. You can choose to have a fresh smelling herb garden which is bright in color and also spreads a nice fragrance. Or, you can simply have flowers and coordinate the colors of the flowers to look pretty.
