Organizational Structure

As a non-profit, global industry initiative, the Center for Ethical Identity Assurance is comprised of the center staff and its members working together in various administrative and organizational working groups to achieve our objectives. The groups include the Board of Governors, Steering Committees, Action Groups, and the CEIA Labs and are organized as follows:

Board of Governors
Comprised of founding members and full members of CEIA, including end users, service providers, and industry associations, representing a mix of public and private organizations with global representation.

Steering Committees
Chaired by members of the board of governors and focusing on the business, technical and public policy & privacy issues surrounding identity assurance as follows:

  • Business Steering Committee - The Business Steering Committee focuses on industry specific end user requirements and adoption activities in the areas of public sector, transportation, commercial, healthcare and financial services industries.

  • Technology Steering Committee - The Technology Steering Committee focuses on the technical activities of the Center including hardware action groups and software action groups.

  • Public Policy & Privacy Steering Committee - The Public Policy & Privacy Steering Committee works to increase awareness and understanding of identity assurance topics on the consumer, legislative, and industry side. It is a multi-industry steering committee with global representation.  The committee provides education and outreach to key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.
Action Groups
Action Groups help drive the agenda from both a business and technology perspective and include industry specific action groups and hardware and software action groups within the corresponding Steering Committees outlined above.

The action groups are designed to bring together international users from a variety of industries to define business and technical requirements for identity assurance.

The goal of the action groups is to help develop the foundational principles of the consortium’s position, working toward the creation of industry best practices, standards, and commercial adoption.

CEIA Labs
CEIA Labs are world-renowned research and affiliate universities providing directed academic research in support of the goals and objectives of the Center in its disciplines of business, technology and public policy and privacy as it relates to identity assurance.

Since identity assurance is a global topic that spans both the public and private sector and across multiple continents and industries, our focus in establishing the academic research agenda has been to set up a global footprint via a network of independent research labs that operate within the overall confines of our key focus areas.

The Center currently has five research and affiliate universities located in the U.S., Europe and Asia-Pacific. These are MIT (affiliate), the University of Texas at Dallas, University College London, University of Warwick, and the University of Canberra in Australia. Each research university pursues directed academic research on behalf of the Center and focuses on a unique aspect of our mission based upon their core competencies and interests.
