In today's rapidly changing environment, with global attention on issues such as national identity cards, identity theft, on-line fraud, and privacy concerns, individuals, businesses and governments worldwide have come to recognize that individual privacy and secure business operations all come down to the simple concept of identity assurance - identity assurance is a pre-requisite for robust identity management, and identity management a pre-requisite for robust security.

CEIA is a unique partnership between leading global companies such as Unisys, government organizations, vendors, and several of the world’s leading research universities.

Together we plan to promote and develop the standards, and assemble the infrastructure, needed to create the next generation of technologies and processes to improve identity assurance, for consumers, governments, and businesses alike, on a global scale.

The Centers’ mission is to establish and promote globally interoperable standards and best practices for identity assurance of physical identity credentials (leveraging technologies such as smartcards, RFID and biometrics) including focus areas of:
